The Ubereater Does Chicago: Summer 2008

It’s official. Over this year’s July 4th weekend, I will finally make my triumphant return to the city I called home for more than 2 years…Chicago.

Wayworn with a yen for something new, I moved to Chicago in July of 2004 in an effort experience another part of the country. My hunger for change was trumped only by my zeal for assimilating to the culture of this Midwestern metropolis; a feat best accomplished through food. Soon these initial gusts of gustatory glory quickly developed into a tornado of consumption that would touch down all over, continuously wreaking havoc across Chicagoland's vast culinary landscape.

After 2 and ½ years of countless burgers, stacks of deep dish pizza, and an inordinate amount of Italian beef sandwiches, the devastation would be over. Subsiding as quickly as it started, this toothsome typhoon through Chicagoland left me hungry not for food, but for answers. Nevermind about what an italian beef sandwich is....why aren't they putting cheese on it? Of course, this is a question for another time, but these are the sorts of thoughts that continue to irk me to no end.

Regardless of my troubled conscience, going back to Chicago after more than a year will remind me that while the Ubereater may have been born in New York, we must not forget that he was conceived in Chicago.

Now it’s time to return to the scene of the crime.
